Hurricane IDA Relief Project – New Orleans, Louisiana
Hurricane IDA, a Category 4 hurricane, considered the second most damaging and destructive force, hit the
state of Louisiana on August 27, 2021. It tied the record with Hurricane Laura in regards to maximum sustained
winds of 150 mph. As with Hurricane Laura, Divine Miracles Ministry was able to coordinate relief efforts to
provide needed supplies to families in the New Orleans area. Pastor Henry Davis, (former Pastor of Our Mother
of Mercy Church in Beaumont, Texas) had student volunteers to help organize and unpack the U-Haul
truckload of donations. Pastor Davis is now the Pastor of Corpus Christi Epiphany Church, as well as Dean at
the Xavier College Preparatory High School where the students attend. The donations included 110 cases of
water, new clothes and shoes, as well as household supplies. The supplies were distributed throughout the
community. A special “thank you” goes out to everyone that was involved in making this project a success.
Missionary Society of St. Paul – South Sudan, Africa Mission
Our partnership with the Missionary Society of St Paul located in Houston, Texas began in early 2020. Rev.
Aloysius Nzekwe, the director of Mission Development for the organization, coordinated the fifth water well
project in the village of Amtawalam in Gombe State Nigeria, Africa with Divine Miracles International
Ministries. The well was featured in the last newsletter which was the July 2021 edition. Rev. Nzekwe is also our
contact for shipping clothes and shoes to our friends in South Sudan, Africa at Holy Rosary Mission of Torit
Diocese in South Sudan, Africa. Missionary Society of St. Paul helps with logistics by packing the items,
covering the cost of shipping the items, and distributing the clothes and shoes to the students. Pictures were
sent to Divine Miracles for us to share and to express appreciation for the support made available to these young
men. Please continue to keep them in your prayers!
Water Well #2 – Nigeria, Africa
Our second water well project was coordinated with Rev. Noel Effiong, the current pastor at St. Gregory Church
located in Houston, Texas. His family, who resides in the region of the Village of Afaha Atan Ibiono Ibiono
Akwa, Ibom in Nigeria, Africa, assisted in acquiring the property and coordinating the construction of this
water well. Due to electrical outages throughout the village, Divine Miracles has provided some funding for the
purchase of a generator to help alleviate these electrical problems. The installation of the new generator is
scheduled to begin this summer and will ensure the continual availability of water during the year for this
region of the village. A meeting was held earlier during the month of March with Rev. Noel Effiong, Marcus,
and Susan Barefield to discuss the problems. Rev. Noel Effiong was the former pastor of Our Mother of Mercy
Church located in Beaumont, Texas before moving to Houston, Texas.
Water Well #3 – Ghana, Africa
Meet our wonderful friend, Dr. Yaw Frimpong-Badu. Dr. Frimpong-Badu graduated from the University of Ghana
Medical School in 1998. He is affiliated with the Michael E. Debakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Houston,
Texas and with the Baylor St Luke’s Medical Center in Houston, Texas. Dr. Frimpong-Badu specializes in
Geriatric Medicine and Internal Medicine. Divine Miracles International Ministries partnered with Dr. FrimpongBadu to oversee the construction of 2 water well projects beginning in 2019. Water well #4 was featured in the
December 2020 newsletter and is located in the village of Bruku Abodwa, Ghana, Africa. Water well #3 was
completed in 2020 and is located in the Odii Village of Aburi, Ghana Africa. A special thanks goes to Dr.
Frimpong-Badu for all of his hard work with the coordination of these 2 wells. It is our hope we will see more
projects in the future between Divine Miracles and Dr. Frimpong-Badu in Africa.
Water Well #6 – Totogalpa, Nicaragua, Central America
Divine Miracles second partnership was formed in the beginning of 2012 with Flor (Liz) Hernandez, Lucy Rubio,
and the mayor of Totogalpa, Nicaragua in Central America, Dr. Melvin Lopez. Our primary goal was to provide
food, clothing, shoes, and medical supplies to the underprivileged of the community. Mrs. Liz Hernandez and
her mother, Ms. Lucy Rubio are our United States program coordinators for the various Nicaragua projects.
They are originally from Totogalpa, Nicaragua. They were responsible for delivering supplies and food baskets
to the needy families throughout the area over the years. Totogalpa, Nicaragua is also the site for the water well
#6 project with the mayor. In the picture shown above, Dr. Melvin Lopez is conducting a hydrogeological study
to ensure there is water at the site before drilling. This well will provide needed water as well as opportunities for
indoor pumping to several of the homes and should be ready for construction in the summer of 2022. Dr. Lopez
and his wife are medical physicians by trade.
Local Projects – Texas, United States of America
Divine Miracles has continued to provide assistance locally as well as internationally. One of our local
projects included providing Easter baskets to the Beaumont Women and Children Shelter. In December
of every year, we also provided toys to the shelter as well as local families needing support. Financial
assistance was provided to families dealing with unemployment issues or having to provide care for sick
family members. For the Thanksgiving season, approximately five additional families were referred for a
Thanksgiving turkey along with HEB gift cards. Christmas hams and Walmart gift cards were provided
to approximately five families during the month of December. School supplies were also given
throughout the years to families referred to us. These referrals were provided by board members who
were aware of these financial needs. Despite the pandemic, God has been there to ensure all projects are
funded and every need met. We are amazed at the work God has allowed us to do.
